Posted by | Largo Council 4892 was the place to be Saturday night January 30th. The Saint Patrick Roman Catholic Church of Largo went through a fantastic time warp that went all the way by into the roarin' twenties. The council hosted their third annual fundraiser called: Big Maxie's Speakeasy. The fundraiser was to raise enough money to try to buy a chalice for a visiting priest from Africa. The event featured an authentic home- made New York Style (and a really darn great tasting -best I've ever had!!!!) spaghetti dinner with a Caesar salad and garlic bread that melted in your mouth. There was plenty of casino action with the slot machines being the most popular with all the dames. Black Jack, roulette and many other games took a lot of action as well. Another really nice touch was popular 1920's music, gents dressed as the mob, flapper gals selling hooch and raffles galore. Brother Dick Shannon and Dave Ruppel were the chief kingpins of the joint and brought in a lot of scratch. Grand Knight Henri Bellavance was very pleased at the attendance and was all ready looking forward to the event next year. |
